Odd Species: HAL9000 is an immersive audiovisual experience that reinterprets Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" through the perspective of its artificial intelligence agent, HAL 9000. Through compelling sound design and minimalist visual elements, the work reconstructs HAL's journey from ambitious controller to its ultimate deactivation, transforming the complex narrative into an emotionally resonant experience. The performance creates a compelling parallel between HAL's story from 1968 and our contemporary relationship with AI, inviting viewers to reflect on how our coexistence with artificial intelligence has evolved from a science fiction to daily reality. This project is a collaborative project with Jiapei Yao. In the performance, we controlled the visual images generated by the program in p5.js in real time and synchronized it with the composed sound. I created the narrative and all the audio composition, while Jiapei mainly contributed to visual elements in p5.js.
